	Zizi Nassour was an incredible woman who fled political upheaval in 1960’s Egypt.&#38;nbsp;
 She had to pretend her family was going on vacation to the United States. And make her three young kids pack one single bag before saying goodbye to their friends and home forever. 
This custom lettering of her name reads in English (left to right) and Arabic (right to left). It aims to fuse the typographic landscape of Egypt and Los Angeles where she would spend the rest of her days raising my father.All latin based type is set in Sunset Gothic which is modeled after the uniquely Californian '60s hand lettering style of John Baldessari, a visual staple of the Los Angeles they escaped to.

My grandmas nickname “Zizi” reads forwards in English and backwards in Arabic (loosely). The English letter “i” makes a Z sound in Arabic and the lower case cursive “z” shape makes an “i” sound.

At age 9 my dad fled political turmoil in Egypt to seek a better life in LA in the ‘60s. He could bring nothing but a single bag. A painful event, he never fully recovered from. Since his passing, I started this body of work to help me unpack and memorialize the heavy and wonderfully light aspects of how that experience shaped his life and its impact on mine.The parameters of the series are:
 
Each poster explores one moment of friction (be it funny or serious) where Arab and American identities clashed while growing up in Los Angeles.
 
All latin based type is set in Sunset Gothic which is modeled after the uniquely Californian '60s hand lettering style and is an homage for when my dad first arrived in LA from Egypt.

After a certain president was elected, I was compelled to speak up using the only skills I have. It started in 2017 with the innaugural Women’s March in Los Angeles, where I created poster art for thousands of protestors around the world who needed help expressing themselves visually.
